Excellence Awards given out August 29th**"GATHERrrrrr....Together" At University Settlement Reviewed by Lisa Sandberg for for Theatre Reviews Limited Gather together to witness sound collide with movement and theater - the effect is a truly unique event. Via percussion, the classically trained musician trio present works by Kagel, Aperghis, and de Mey, which combine these elements to explore sound in relation to our surrounding world. Rrrr members Eduardo Leandro, Nathan Davis, and Douglas Perkins have performed contemporary, classical, popular, and theatre music on both sides of three continents. Utilizing entirely hands, facial expressions, and body parts, Rrrr explores the full range of percussion instruments. The program begins with Les Guetteurs de sons by George Aperghis, a work that chronicles the birth and death of sound. The finale is a piece by Mauricio Kagel's Dressur, in which sound is both a motivation and a by-product of movement and expression.
